PHOTO & video PREP

Wardrobe

Your wardrobe + accessories can truly make or break your shoot. A photographer/videographer can do their best work but if an outfit is thrown together last minute, the whole photo/video will look thrown together last minute. It is very important to take your looks seriously.

  • make sure all garments are ironed + wrinkle free (as much as possible)

  • bring all garments on hangers

  • bring appropriate undergarments that can’t be seen under clothing (unless that’s the style you’re going for)

  • bring options - sometimes what looks good in person, doesn’t look good on camera and vice versa - don’t be embarrassed about bringing your whole closet - everyone does it!

  • think about what you’re trying to portray through your photos - who are you? are you bright + extroverted? are you softer + introverted? what do you want your photos to say about you? do you want them to say you’re intelligent? adventurous? fun? proper? inviting? friendly? bold? independent?

DRESSING FOR YOUR SKIN TONE:
Not sure what colors work best for your skin tone? Here is a chart + an article on finding your undertone.

MAKE-UP: I recommend hiring a makeup artist. I know it all can add up ($$$). But great make up can separate an incredible photo from a bad one (even with proper lighting).

A cheaper option would be to book time at Sephora with one of their makeup artists. This can be risky though as sometimes their makeup artists overdo it and you can look very “instagramable” rather than true glam, natural, etc. You can find an “Ultimate Glam” and “Full Face” option on their website here.

HAIR: I recommend having your hair done professionally, however if you do decide to do your hair yourself, please make sure flyaways are hair-sprayed down and your hair is ready to go for your first look if you have multiple.

NAILS: Make sure nails are clean + natural or freshly polished/done without chips. Fingers + toes (if they’ll be showing).
